Thanksgiving Lapbook

OK, lets try this again.

Fiona is now in kindergarten!  We are about half way through the year and just decided to scrap 95% of our curriculum and try new, but more on that later.

Today's post is all about lapbooks.  We have made our first ever lapbook and LOVED it!  Our lapbook is all about Thanksgiving.  We studied the history of the first Thanksgiving for most of the month of November.  Then we spent two days putting the whole thing together.  Such a fun way to review!

I downloaded so many different lapbooks and used bits and pieces of them all to make out own unique lapbook!

So, here it is.....

The cover picture is just a free coloring page I found online. Here is the link to it....  Cornucopia.  That was colored in by Fiona and glued to a sheet of construction paper that was trimmed to fit.  Then the construction paper was glued only on the right hand side of the tri-folded file folder.  The stickers for this entire book come from the approximately 32 fall and Thanksgiving sticker books we got for $1 each from Micheals.

The long tab is the other side of the red construction paper.  I just glued brown on this side to strengthen it before gluing on the pocket.  And then on the other flap we have the obligatory and oh so cute hand print turkey.

The full inside of our lapbook.

This What did They Bring booklet came from a free lapbook, IDK if it will always be free, so if you want it for next year I would grab it now!

We put these in order of what Fiona could think of on her own without seeing the pictures.  I didn't have to give her prompts until we came to candles!

A great activity for cutting and pasting practice as well ;)

I was going to paste the booklet down, but Fiona decided we NEEDED to make a pocket for it.  LOL, she loves the pockets.

This came from 123LearnCurriculum.com  its from their Thanksgiving Lapbook.

Fiona did a good job of coloring in the ENTIRE page, LOL.

These two paper dolls came from a library time back in PA.  At the end of the day the teacher walked towards the garbage with the extra pages!  I asked if I could have the extras, she gave me one copy and tossed the rest into the very nasty garbage :(  So wasteful.  I have no idea why they chose to print them on yellow paper O,o I made the brown pocket to hold them and it instantly became their bed, LOL

She didn't want to make Pilgrim paper dolls, only the Native American ones.  Which is good I guess being as the pocket has been deemed a bed, that would be one crowded bed otherwise!

This came from the Goody O'Grumpity lapbook.  Its found at Home School Share.com.

She has so much fun spinning the color wheel, LOL.

This came from Homeschool Share.com Its the Goody O'Grumpity lapbook that goes along with the story of the same name.  Then & Now Book is what this piece is called.

I was rather surprised at how many items Fiona remembered for the inside of the booklet!  I didn't have to give her almost any hints at all!

These are Pumpkin Life Cycle - sequencing cards.  They are the only thing in the lapbook that aren't "finished".  By the time we got to them Fiona didn't want to color another thing.  But she still enjoyed taking them out and putting them in order.

Fiona did a great job cutting out and assembling the ship all on her own!
I got this from a Thanksgiving Activity Pack (for ages 3-6, 2011)  The website marked on the file I have is ItsyBitsyLearners.com..  But I don't think they exist anymore.  You can draw the simple shapes and have your child cut them out and paste them without the printable.

All the lapbooks had so many different activities and booklets that we didn't use.  And there are many other free and paid printables out there.  This is what I found in less than a  week before we put it together.  You will find many other lapbooks at curruclick.com and HomeSchool Share.com.

The BEST library book we found was If You Were at the First Thanksgiving. We read the book cover to cover!  Fiona learned so much from the book, and requested me to read it for her bed time story every night until we finished it.

We also watched many many youtube videos.  I'm not going to list them all, there were to many.  Fiona's favorites were the Scholastic Plymouth Plantation videos.

And speaking of video's.... Here is your reward for getting this far, LOL.  Fiona's video discussion of her Thanksgiving lapbook....
